The Tempo Lamp emerges from the contrast between the techniques of sand casting and 3D printing, and how these materials interact with light. Casting, as an ancient technique that allows shaping metals, contrasts with 3D printing, a recent technology that enables the creation of surfaces with great plastic freedom and, in this lamp, translucent ones. Formally, it consists of two opposite cones, like an hourglass. One of them serves as the base, translucent, made of corn-based bioplastic, and the other as the lampshade, made of polished cast brass on the outside. When its base is illuminated, it subverts the common logic where the base only supports the lampshade. The roughness of the inner face of the cast piece, a mark of the artisanal process, is highlighted by the light at the meeting of the two cones.
